Worth being precise about one thing: Cabopino beach and the port belong to Marbella, while the rest of Calahonda sits in Mijas. Nobody local gets that wrong, and it changes which council you are dealing with if a job needs permits.

Nine times out of ten, this is a simple callout. The awkward ones are the marina flats, where access is tight, parking is a negotiation and the shut-off is not where anyone expects. We plan that before we set off rather than discovering it at the door with the guests arriving.

Artola Alta climbs the hillside, Artola Baja clusters around the port. Both are heavily short-let, which means most of what we do here is done against a deadline: guests in, a problem found, an answer needed the same day.

The dunes behind are protected, so there is no shortcut through them and no parking on the sand. We plan the van around that rather than discovering it on the morning.
